A Dance

Today Candice, Dale, Sarah, Rebekah and myself met at dance house for two and a half hours.
We danced.
It was lovely to move through many of the structures and sense of presence offered by Anne  O‘ keeffeon our own. We naturally moved into a group improvised dance.

Rebekah and I danced together and I lifted and carried her in the space. A cathartic dance after a few days of feeling a bit overwhelmed with each other. The dancing contended with being overwhelmed as we tried lifts and smothering each other.

I operated a camera to capture some of a dance between Sarah and Rebekah. I felt myself testing my ability to move more fluidly between operating the camera and being present and moving with others in the space. This comes from a feeling that the camera can create a barrier between energy and communication. I think practicing moving between a dance, and filming a dance will make me a better director. Someone who can tap into empathy and feel the energy in the space more quickly but still use and access the tools to translate that energy to the screen.
